Percentage
Charge a percentage of an amount, for transaction fees and revenue share.
Percentage pricing charges a percentage of a base amount. You set the rate; the base is the amount you are taking a cut of, supplied when the charge is calculated. The price is the base multiplied by the rate.
Use it for transaction fees, revenue share, and take rates: "we charge 2.9% of every payment," "our platform fee is 15% of the booking."
Not billable yet. Neither recurring billing nor an invoice line has a base amount to apply the rate to, so a percentage price can't be added to a subscription or put on an invoice. You'll get a clear error if you try. Define the price now if you like; billing it arrives with the base-amount source.
Worked example
You charge a 2.9% transaction fee. A customer processes a $100.00 payment through you:
total = $100.00 x 2.9% = $2.90
The base ($100.00) is the amount being charged against. The rate (2.9%) is fixed on the price. Change the base and the fee moves with it.
Settings
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Percentage | The rate, as a percent. 2.9 means 2.9 percent. |
The base amount is not part of the price. It is supplied for each charge, because it changes every time: a different payment, a different booking, a different period's revenue.
Edge cases
- The base drives the amount. No base, no charge. The rate alone does not produce a price.
- Rounding happens once. The percentage is applied to the base and rounded to the currency's smallest unit a single time, so repeated fees do not drift.
- For a percentage of usage cost, look at the usage and AI model. That one starts from a cost you push in, and can add a markup percentage on top.
